Translate your cookie banner with WPML or Polylang

Translate every Omea Consent banner and preferences text with Polylang or WPML String Translation – and why switching language never asks visitors again.

If your site runs in more than one language, the cookie banner should too. Omea Consent registers all of its visitor-facing texts with Polylang and WPML, so you translate them where you translate everything else.

Translate the banner

  1. Write the texts in your default language Go to Omea Consent › Settings › Texts and Categories, write the texts and click Save changes. Saving registers them for translation.
  2. Open string translations In Polylang go to Languages › Translations and filter by the group Omea Consent. In WPML go to WPML › String Translation and filter by the domain omea-consent.
  3. Translate each string Translate the 15 strings named omea_consent_… – the banner message, buttons, preferences title and description, and the four category labels and descriptions.
  4. Check each language Open the site in each language in a private window and check the banner and the preferences window.

Which texts are translatable

String name Text
omea_consent_prompt_description Banner message
omea_consent_prompt_accept Accept all button
omea_consent_prompt_reject Reject all button
omea_consent_prompt_prefs Preferences button
omea_consent_modal_title Preferences window title
omea_consent_modal_description Preferences window description
omea_consent_modal_save Save and close button
omea_consent_label_… and omea_consent_desc_… Label and description of each of the four categories

Default texts translate themselves

If you keep a text in its default wording, you don’t have to translate it: visitors in other languages get the plugin’s own translation of that default. Only texts you’ve changed need a manual translation.

Switching language doesn’t ask again

Omea Consent asks visitors again when the banner texts change – but translations don’t count as a change. A visitor who chose in English isn’t asked again when they switch to Finnish. The consent log still records which language version of the banner each visitor saw.

Policy pages per language

Choose the privacy policy and cookie policy pages under Settings › Policies. With Polylang or WPML, translate those pages as usual. The generated cookie policy is written in your site’s language.
