Cookie banner not showing in WordPress? 7 fixes
Omea Consent banner not appearing? Check for a saved choice, hidden roles, another banner plugin, script-delay settings and pages WordPress doesn't serve.
On this page
- 1. You’ve already made a choice
- 2. Your user role is hidden
- 3. Another cookie banner plugin is active
- 4. A performance plugin delays the scripts
- 5. You’re looking at a page WordPress doesn’t serve
- 6. It disappeared after the first page – with subdomain sharing on
- 7. A JavaScript error stops it
- Still no banner?
Work through these in order – the first two explain most cases.
1. You’ve already made a choice
The banner only appears until a visitor chooses. After that, Omea shows a small round cookie icon at the bottom left instead. To see the banner again, open the site in a private window, or click the cookie icon and change your choice.
2. Your user role is hidden
Under Omea Consent › Settings › Categories, Hide banner for roles hides the banner from logged-in users with the ticked roles – often administrators. Log out, or test in a private window.
3. Another cookie banner plugin is active
Two consent plugins get in each other’s way. The Get your site compliant checklist on Omea Consent › Settings warns you with Another cookie banner is active and offers a Deactivate button. Omea recognises 18 banner plugins, including Complianz, CookieYes, Cookiebot, Borlabs Cookie, Real Cookie Banner, iubenda and Cookie Notice.
4. A performance plugin delays the scripts
Omea reads the visitor’s choice in the browser, so page caching itself is fine. But “delay JavaScript until interaction” or script-combining features can hold the banner back. Exclude Omea Consent’s scripts (their file names and IDs start with omea-consent) from delaying and combining, clear the cache, and test again. Omea’s inline scripts are already marked to skip Cloudflare Rocket Loader.
5. You’re looking at a page WordPress doesn’t serve
A blog or landing page served by HubSpot, Webflow or another system under your domain doesn’t run WordPress plugins. A cloud scan lists these under Pages without the banner. With Omea Consent Pro you can show the banner there with one line.
6. It disappeared after the first page – with subdomain sharing on
Version 1.0.1 had a bug: with One choice across subdomains on, the banner disappeared from the second page view. It was fixed in 1.0.2. Update under Plugins.
7. A JavaScript error stops it
Open your browser’s developer tools and check the Console for red errors. An error in another script can stop the page’s scripts from running. Deactivate plugins one at a time to find the cause, or ask in the support forum with the error message.
