Microsoft Clarity consent mode on WordPress
Send Microsoft Clarity the consentv2 signal from your WordPress cookie banner so it keeps working for EEA, UK and Swiss visitors. Automatic in Omea.
On this page
Microsoft Clarity records sessions and heatmaps. Since 31 October 2025 Clarity enforces consent signals for visits from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland: without a valid signal, it limits what it collects for those visitors (Microsoft Learn: Clarity consent management).
Omea Consent sends that signal for you. It is on by default.
What Omea Consent sends to Clarity
On every choice, Omea calls Clarity’s recommended consentv2 API:
| Clarity field | Follows Omea category |
|---|---|
analytics_Storage |
Statistics |
ad_Storage |
Marketing |
A visitor who accepts Statistics but not Marketing gets full Clarity analytics without advertising use. A visitor who rejects all is tracked by Clarity only in its no-cookie mode.
It works however Clarity is added – from your theme, another plugin, Google Tag Manager or Omea’s Scripts.
Check the setting
- Go to Omea Consent › Settings › Advanced.
- Make sure Microsoft consent signals is on (it is by default). Its description: “Send the same choice to Microsoft Advertising (UET) and Clarity so their tags respect consent – also when they come through GTM or another plugin.”
- Click Save changes if you changed it.
The same switch sends Microsoft Advertising’s UET consent – see Microsoft UET consent mode for WordPress.
Should Clarity also wait for consent?
The signal lets Clarity run in a reduced, cookieless way before consent. If you’d rather Clarity didn’t load at all until the visitor agrees, paste the Clarity snippet into Omea Consent › Scripts with the Statistics category instead of loading it from elsewhere. See Add tracking scripts that wait for consent.
Withdrawing consent
If a visitor withdraws Statistics later, Omea reloads the page and deletes Clarity’s _clck and _clsk cookies along with the other statistics cookies.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to change my Clarity tag?
No. Keep the Clarity tag where it is – in your theme, a plugin, GTM or Omea’s Scripts. Omea Consent sends the consent signal to whichever Clarity tag runs on the page.
What happens to Clarity when a visitor rejects?
Clarity receives analytics_Storage and ad_Storage as denied and works without cookies, with limited tracking. Microsoft explains the details in its consent documentation.
Can I turn the Microsoft signals off?
Yes – switch off Microsoft consent signals under Omea Consent › Settings › Advanced. Clarity then gets no signal from Omea.
